The Mortacrux is a Necromancer unique dagger that gives every Corpse a second use. When you consume one, you may also create a decaying skeleton that runs at enemies and explodes when it dies.

When consuming a Corpse, there is a chance to also create a decaying Skeletal Simulacrum that seeks enemies but cannot attack. When it dies, it explodes for Shadow damage, and the effect is treated as a Macabre Skill.
The Simulacrum has no attack of its own. Its whole value is the explosion at the end, which makes it a delayed area hit that your Corpse-consuming skills produce for free.
In the game data the Corpse skills are Corpse Explosion, Corpse Tendrils and Skeleton Warrior, which consume or use a Corpse. Macabre is a skill group that includes Blood Mist, Bone Spirit, Bone Prison and Golem, so counting the Simulacrum as a Macabre Skill lets it benefit from bonuses for that group. The dagger always drops with Weapon Damage and Skill Ranks to Macabre Skills.
Every Corpse-consuming skill of the Necromancer rolls the chance, so a build that raises many corpses and consumes them quickly creates many Simulacra over a fight.
Only the Necromancer, as a dagger.
No. It seeks enemies but cannot attack, and it explodes when it dies.
