Marvel Rivals Settings, Modes & Social Features

This glossary covers the parts of Marvel Rivals that sit around the heroes: ranks and seasons, the health bar, accessibility and privacy options, replays, servers and the social tools. It also corrects several terms that old guides use for things the game does not have. A search for "creator code", "Public Test Realm", "Sakaar Arena", "XP boost" or "server tick 128" mostly returns pages that describe features nobody has documented, so those sections say plainly what we could and could not confirm on 12 October 2026 (Season 10.5).

Menu paths come from guides and player reports, and NetEase moves settings around between seasons. When a path does not match, search the Settings screen for the setting name.

Modes and maps

Matches are objective-based, not deathmatch. The community wiki groups the standard maps by mode:

ModeGoalMaps (wiki snapshot)
ConvoyPush a payload through checkpointsYggdrasil Path, Spider-Islands, Midtown, Arakko
ConvergenceCapture a point, then escort a payloadSymbiotic Surface, Shin-Shibuya, Hall of Djalia, Central Park, K'un-Lun: Heart of Heaven
DominationHold the point to fill a barHell's Heaven, Birnin T'Challa, Royal Palace, Krakoa, Celestial Husk
Resource RumbleCollect and deliver resourcesThrone of Knull
Doom MatchFree-for-all style fightSanctum Sanctorum

The list is a snapshot and misses newer additions. God Quarry, a Domination map linked to Gorr's story, came on 24 September 2026, and Alchemax Headquarters joined the 18-versus-18 mode in Season 10.5 (9 October 2026). The limited-time mode "Path to Doomsday: Avengers Infinity War" runs from 9 October to 11 December 2026: 12 players form six duos and the first duo to collect all six Infinity Stones wins. Times Square is the social hub, not a match map; see Photo Mode below. For the general vocabulary of objective modes, see strategy and meta terms.

Season rank icon

The season rank icon is the tier badge shown on your profile and in lobbies. Competitive play has nine tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity and One Above All. Bronze through Celestial each have three divisions, III up to I, with I as the highest. Each division step needs 100 Rank Points, so a full tier is 300. Eternity has no divisions and is judged by points relative to other players. One Above All is the top tier, awarded to the top 500 players at the end of the season.

Seasons reset rank. Guides say a full season now begins with ten placement matches rather than the old flat division drop, and that half-season updates such as 9.5 and 10.5 do not reset rank or Rank Points. End-of-season rewards follow the highest rank you reached during the season, not where you finish. Rank-up costumes are seasonal: the Season 10.0 Gold-tier costume is Gorr's Gods' Graveyard skin. Sources disagree on details such as the unlock rank for hero bans, so check the in-game Competitive screen.

Rank follows match results. If you would rather hand a rank climb to someone else, our Marvel Rivals boost page lists the services we offer.

Health bar

Your health bar shows the health of a hero. Marvel Rivals layers three things on it:

  • Health, the main bar. Reaching zero eliminates you.
  • Bonus health, often called a shield, shown as a blue extension to the bar according to the fan wiki. It takes damage first and many abilities create it.
  • Regenerative Shield, added in the Season 9 balance patch of 10 July 2026. According to the official post, it follows the same rules as base health, starts refilling after five seconds without damage and refills fully in about five seconds more. Recovery speed scales with its size. Captain America moved from 600 health to 300 plus a 300 Regenerative Shield, and Angela to 350 plus 200.

A setting called Show Allies Health Bars controls the bars above teammates. A Steam discussion says it is on by default only for healers; one guide places it under Settings → Combat. We could not verify the exact path, and we found no setting for enemy health bars. For other HUD vocabulary, see the HUD glossary.

Accessibility options

Marvel Rivals documents fewer accessibility features than many shooters, and press coverage has pointed that out. What we could confirm or find reported:

  • Subtitles. The PlayStation Store listing says all spoken dialogue is subtitled. A guide places the toggle at Settings → Audio → Audio → Voiceover Subtitles, with small, medium and large sizes, and says subtitles also show ability callouts such as an enemy ultimate warning.
  • KO Sound Cue. An audio signal when you eliminate someone, under Settings → Audio → Combat Mix, per the same guide.
  • Colorblind and enemy colour settings. They exist, but exact filters are not published. Players with red-green colour deficiency report that dark-red hostile markers still blend into maps. Details on our colorblind page.
  • Remappable controls. Key bindings are customisable on PC.
  • Not found: a text-to-speech or speech-to-text option. Earlier guides that list one are describing Marvel's Avengers, a different game.

The older text on this page also listed a high-contrast mode, text resizing and "assist modes"; we could not confirm those, so they have been removed.

Adaptive triggers on PS5

The PlayStation Blog's launch post says Marvel Rivals uses the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback: trigger tension and vibration change with the hero and the ability, with the Punisher's machine gun, Hawkeye's bowstring and Hulk's punches given as examples. The sources describe it as a feel and immersion feature, not a gameplay mechanic.

If you dislike the resistance, the PS5 system settings have a Trigger Effect Intensity slider under Accessories → Controllers that applies to every game. The game launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 6 December 2024.

Streamer mode

Streamer mode (guides call it Streaming Mode) hides personal information on your screen while you broadcast. Guides place the toggle in Settings → Social and list these options:

  • hide other players' names, and optionally your own;
  • keep in-game chat and faction details off your stream;
  • add a random queue delay, so stream snipers cannot time their entry;
  • block incoming invitations and faction join requests during the broadcast.

The protection is local: the mode changes what you and your viewers see, not what other players in the match can learn about you. One guide says a custom alternative name was added in January 2025; we could not confirm that against a patch note. Streamers should also read about the Creator Program and keep real names out of party chat.

Replay and highlight

A replay is a full match you can rewatch from the History screen; a highlight is a short clip the game selects, which you can save to your computer. They are two systems. You can star a match to keep it under Favourites, watch with a free camera and switch between player views, and save highlights with a Save button (to the Videos folder on PC by default). There is no built-in export of a full match to a video file. Full instructions, including what we know and do not know about replay codes, are on Replay Codes in Marvel Rivals.

Victory pose

"Victory pose" is not an official term. The animation a winning team's top player gets at the end of a match is called an MVP animation. Each hero has a default one, and others come with costumes, bundles, battle passes or events. To equip one, choose a hero, open the Cosmetics tab, select MVP and press Equip. According to the community wiki, since Season 3 an MVP animation works with any costume of that hero; an older forum complaint says otherwise, so check the preview before buying.

The losing team's top performer gets the SVP ("second valuable player") title instead. SVP has no cinematic, though launch-era articles say it can protect rank points in a lost Competitive match. Treat the rank-protection claim as unverified for the current season.

XP boost

We found no XP boost consumable, double-XP event or "XP boost" store item in Marvel Rivals' patch notes. Progress comes from four places:

  • Battle Pass. Daily and weekly missions give the Chrono Tokens that advance the pass. The Season 10 pass is called "The Godbomb".
  • Account level, which rises as you play any mode.
  • Hero Proficiency, a cosmetic level for each hero; see the Hero Proficiency explainer.
  • Events, which give Units and cosmetics. For example, Times Square photo ops during the Path to Doomsday event.

Be careful with any site or seller offering an "XP boost" for money: nothing official sells one, and handing your account to someone else for levelling can breach the game's terms.

Server tick 128

The tick rate is how many times per second the server updates the game state; see the server tick rate explainer. NetEase's creative director said before launch that Marvel Rivals servers would run at 60 ticks. We found no announcement of 128, which is the figure Counter-Strike 2 is known for, and no later patch note changing it. Lag complaints in Marvel Rivals often trace back to the player's own connection, distance to the server or a poor route rather than to the tick rate. Choose the region closest to you in the lobby, use a wired connection and see online play, lag and connection terms for ping, jitter and packet loss.

Public Test Realm

Marvel Rivals has no public Public Test Realm. The game was tested in the 2024 Closed Alpha and Closed Beta, and signups then ran through the Steam page and, on consoles, a questionnaire. An explainer from the Season 1 period says a test server exists for content creators a few days before big updates, but it is not available to the public and cannot be downloaded. We found no PTR or test-server announcement for Season 10. Any site offering "PTR access" is not offering something official. New heroes and changes are announced in patch notes and roadmap posts, not in a public test.

Creator code

A creator code is a code you enter at checkout so a streamer receives a share of what you spend. That is how Epic's Support-A-Creator works in Fortnite and Rocket League. We found no equivalent in Marvel Rivals' store, patch notes or support pages. If someone offers you a "Marvel Rivals creator code", treat it with suspicion and do not pay for one. The real creator-facing programme is described on the Creator Program page. See also game economy and cosmetics terms.

Sakaar Arena

There is no Sakaar map or mode in Marvel Rivals' maps and modes as far as we could find. Sakaar is the planet of the Planet Hulk comic storyline, where Hulk becomes a gladiator and later king, and it also appears in the film Thor: Ragnarok. The game's maps (listed in Modes and maps) draw on other places, and Hulk is a Vanguard with no Sakaar-specific mode. If a future season adds a Sakaar-themed map, it will be in the patch notes and this section will be updated.
