Thorns with a heavy hit

Thorns has a 30% chance to deal 200-250% increased damage. In Season 15 Blizzard raised the chance from 10% to 30% and widened the bonus from 180-200% to 200-250%, so the proc is both more frequent and stronger than before.

The chest armor is meant for builds that stack Thorns and make enemies hit them. Its power does not create Thorns damage by itself; it multiplies what your gear and skills already provide.

Four Thorns affixes

Razorplate has an unusual fixed-affix set: all four of its fixed affixes are Thorns, and since patch 3.1 it no longer drops with a fifth Core affix. That means the stats on the piece are close to a single-purpose Thorns package. Thorns is the damage you deal back to enemies that hit you, and it is also a stat you can build up on other gear, which is where the power's multiplier shows its value.

Because the trigger depends on Thorns damage happening, a character that takes no hits gets little from it. Anything that lets you stay in melee range, such as Fortify or a Barrier, gives the chest more attackers to punish.
