The power of Balazan's Maxtlatl

Your casts damage Close enemies for a share of your Thorns and deal 100% of that damage again as Poisoning over 3 seconds. Each time you retaliate with Thorns, the Poisoning damage rises by 100% for 5 seconds, up to 300%. The pants come with a fixed Thorns affix, which feeds the same effect.

Affixes and gear details

With Lord of Hatred, Uniques carry fewer preset affixes, which leaves more room to chase a better combination. Since patch 3.1.0 every Unique drops with two fixed affixes, and on Balazan's Maxtlatl they are Primary Core Stat and Thorns. It is class-locked: only the Spiritborn can equip it. A Unique Charm version exists, so the same power can also be placed in a Talisman charm slot. Unique items can be tempered, and since patch 3.1.0 Enchanting can alter the affixes of Unique and Mythic Unique items.

Where it comes from

Balazan's Maxtlatl is part of the loot table of Echo of Varshan, a Lair Boss found at the Malignant Burrow near the Tree of Whispers Waypoint in Hawezar; the boss element type is Shadow / Physical. The fight needs Torment 1 or higher, and 1x Lair Key opens the Hoard after the kill. The Spiritborn part of that table also lists Wound Drinker.
