Prototype is the item quality that sits above High-End, Named and gear set items in The Division 2, introduced with Year 8 Season 1: Rise Up. Stat ceilings can be up to 1.5x higher, because the old maximum becomes the new minimum, and every Prototype piece carries one Augment. This lot farms Prototype pieces: you pick how many random items you want and in which mission.

Key facts

Quality	Prototype is a new item quality above High-End, Named and gear set items; exotics are excluded
Stats	The previous maximum becomes the new minimum; the new maximum can be up to 1.5x higher
Augments	One per item, from a pool of nine: Quantum, Echo, Atomize, Amalgam, Trapper, Entropy, Anomaly, Paradox, Synesthesia
Sources	Escalation runs; upgrading eligible High-End, Named or gear set items; Blackout Dark Zone; Prometheus Terminal
Normalization	In Raids and the Incursion Prototype stats are normalized to the lower end of the range and Augments are disabled; PvP uses its own balance values for Prototype Augments (adjusted in Y8S3.1)
Introduced	Year 8 Season 1: Rise Up, April 2026

Where Prototype items drop

Escalation runs, the replayable endgame mode for level 40 Agents.
Blackout Dark Zone enemies: 0.2% from normal enemies, 0.5% (mid rolls) and 0.2% (high rolls) from elites, 1% and 2% from bosses.
Prometheus Terminal: the DZ Prototype Cache and one random Prototype weapon or gear piece in the daily rotation; Conflict milestone caches at Rank 100, 125 to 130 and 180 to 200 are DZ Prototype Caches too.

Options on this lot

Prototype Items: 5 to 155 items in steps of 5.
Mission: Any mission, Stranded Tanker, ViewPoint Museum, Jefferson Trade Center, Bank Headquarters or DCD Headquarters. Escalation rotates five missions every Tuesday, so the team confirms which are open.

Good to know

In Raids and the Incursion Prototype stats are normalized to the lower end and Augments are disabled, and PvP has its own balance values that were adjusted for Prototype Augments in Title Update Y8S3.1. An item that has been upgraded to Prototype can no longer be optimized or recalibrated, so the rolls matter.

Requirements

The level 40 cap reached on the target Agent.
Escalation unlocked: the mode is for Agents who have finished the main campaign.

Prototype Gear FAQ

Do I get chosen items or random ones?

Random Prototype items. You choose how many and in which mission, not which weapon or armor piece.

What is an Augment?

A passive modifier on a Prototype item, drawn from a shared pool of nine: Quantum, Echo, Atomize, Amalgam, Trapper, Entropy, Anomaly, Paradox and Synesthesia.
