A Scattered Prism is the Legendary crafting material that the Jeweler needs to add a socket to Ancestral equipment in Diablo 4. One Prism plus gold opens a socket for a gem or a rune, while non-Ancestral gear uses Veiled Crystals and Baleful Fragments instead. Prisms come mostly from World Bosses and the Dark Citadel in Torment difficulties, so each one is best saved for a piece you keep.
| Item type | Legendary crafting material |
|---|---|
| Used for | Adding sockets to Ancestral equipment at the Jeweler |
| Socket cost (Ancestral) | 1 Scattered Prism plus gold per socket |
| Socket cost (non-Ancestral) | Veiled Crystals and Baleful Fragments plus gold; no Prism |
| Two-socket slots | Helms, chest armor, pants and two-handed weapons |
| Frequent sources (Torment) | World Bosses; the Dark Citadel |
| Rare sources | Bartering at the Mercenary Den; Infernal Hordes; Initiate Lair Bosses |
| Transfiguration | An item made unmodifiable can afterwards only change its gems or runes |
Helms, chest armor, pants and two-handed weapons can carry two sockets; leaving one empty means a Runeword cannot go into that piece.
You do not need to: the Jeweler adds sockets to non-Ancestral items for Veiled Crystals, Baleful Fragments and gold.
