The power of Bastion of Sir Matthias

Blocking has a chance to make you retaliate with a Shield Bash, and your Shield Bash damage is increased. Both values are rolled on each drop. The shield therefore adds offense to a defensive action and suits a Paladin who has invested in the Shield Bash skill.

Affixes and gear details

With Lord of Hatred, Uniques carry fewer preset affixes, which leaves more room to chase a better combination. Since patch 3.1.0 every Unique drops with two fixed affixes, and on Bastion of Sir Matthias they are Primary Core Stat and Skill Ranks to Shield Bash. It is class-locked: only the Paladin can equip it. Unique items can be tempered, and since patch 3.1.0 Enchanting can alter the affixes of Unique and Mythic Unique items.

Where it comes from

Bastion of Sir Matthias is part of the loot table of Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, a Lair Boss found at the Hall of the Penitent, south of Ked Bardu in the Dry Steppes; the boss element type is Lightning. The fight needs Torment 1 or higher, and 1x Lair Key opens the Hoard after the kill. The Paladin part of that table also lists Sunbrand.
