Channel, then detonate

You gain 40% to All Resistances while channeling Stone Burst. Stone Burst's final explosion deals bonus damage, split between all targets caught in the blast.

Splitting the damage between targets means the explosion is strongest on a single big target and spreads thinner across a pack. The resistance bonus lasts only for the channel, so the extra protection comes at the moments when you stand still building up the final hit.

Stone Burst in short

Stone Burst is a Core Druid skill that costs Spirit. You gather stones beneath your enemies and then detonate them; channeling increases the damage and the affected area, up to a 200% radius increase. The game data lists upgrades such as Armor (30% Armor while channeling), Fortify (Fortify for 35% of Maximum Life at maximum size), Living Stones and Rumbling Stones, which allows an infinite channel. The totem always drops with Weapon Damage and Skill Ranks to Stone Burst.

Rumbling Stones, which makes the channel endless, interacts with the totem in an obvious way: the resistance bonus stays up for as long as you keep channeling.
