The Grandfather is an Iconic Mythic two-handed sword with one plain power: it increases your Critical Strike Damage by 120% as a multiplier. Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin and Warlock characters can equip it. The sword has been in Diablo IV since the 2023 launch, and its bonus was trimmed from 150% to 120% in patch 3.1.0 on 30 June 2026, a value it keeps in Season 15.
Key facts

| Implicit | Indestructible |
| Unique version | None; Mythic quality only |
| Drop sources | Any Lair Boss; Iconic Mythics share one pool across the Lair Bosses |
| In the game since | Launch, 2023, as an ultra-rare Unique |
| First Mythic in Season 15 guides | Frenzy Throw Barbarian; one Minion Barbarian setup |
| Option in Season 15 guides | Mighty Maelstrom Barbarian (offensive weapon choice) |
What the sword does
- Unique power: +120% [x] Critical Strike Damage.
- Fixed affixes since patch 3.1.0: Weapon Damage and Critical Strike Chance.
- It also carries the Indestructible property.
- Season 15 guides value it for the Critical Strike Chance that helps reach the cap, on top of a 2.2x multiplier to all Critical Strike Damage.
Note: pages that quote another bonus, such as 150%, describe older versions of the sword.
Barbarian builds that want it
Frenzy Throw Barbarian lists it first in its Mythic priority order for Season 15, and one of the Minion Barbarian setups does the same. Mighty Maelstrom Barbarian names it among the offensive choices for its weapon slot, while a Season 15 update of the Lunging Strike build swapped it for the Insight Runeword.
Where it drops
No Unique version exists. Like every Iconic Mythic, the sword sits in the pool that all Lair Bosses share, so any of them can drop it. Echo of Mephisto has carried a Mythic drop in its loot since patch 3.2.1, which is any Mythic rather than this one in particular.
