The Heirloom Catalyst is the upgrade slot item of the Heirloom bow in Destiny 2, found in the Equilibrium dungeon. It belongs to a bow you already own, and it lets charged shots scorch targets.

Key facts

Catalyst	Heirloom Catalyst: scorch on charged hits, extra damage to scorched targets, scorch spreads on defeats
Unlock bar	Defeat combatants using Heirloom; bonus progress for multiple final blows
Source	The Equilibrium dungeon
Update 9.7.0	Incandescent added to the catalyst
Dungeon armor	Sage Protector: two-piece Combat Meditation, four-piece Blade Focus
Dungeon weapons	Bitter End, Conspiracy Honed, High Tyrant, Sullen Claw, Trendsetter, Voltaic Shade, Zealous Ideal

What the catalyst does

Direct hits with charged shots scorch the target, and Heirloom deals more damage against scorched targets.
A kill passes scorch on to enemies standing close by, over a bigger area when the victim is a tough combatant or a rival Guardian.
The catalyst also upgrades the bow to a Masterwork once the unlock objective is met: defeating combatants with Heirloom, with bonus progress for multiple final blows.
Update 9.7.0 added the Incandescent perk to this catalyst.

Where it comes from

Bungie's record for the catalyst says it is acquired from the Equilibrium dungeon, a Renegades dungeon whose triumphs include Finding Balance (complete the dungeon), To Walk Alone (solo without dying) and Listen In (find all collectibles). The dungeon itself pays the Sage Protector armor and seven Legendary weapons, six of them with the Imperial Allegiance origin trait.

What you get

The Heirloom Catalyst on your account.
Additional Options: Add Catalyst Masterwork. Extras: Self-play (Sherpa).

Requirements

The Heirloom bow already acquired on your account.
Equilibrium unlocked through the Renegades expansion; Destiny 2: The Collection includes it.

Heirloom Catalyst FAQ

Can the catalyst be used without the bow?

No. It goes into the catalyst slot of Heirloom.

Does the masterwork need extra kills?

Yes. The record asks you to defeat combatants with the bow, and the masterwork is the upgrade at the end of that bar.
