Using Dearly Departed

Your Rift provides damage reduction to allied Guardians standing in it. You gain Rift energy when you are critically wounded, and when you die a healing rift is created on your corpse.

It is a team-protection perk, and even the death clause is written to benefit the team. Flavor text on The Stag refers to a taunt about bones for the feast and death as victory.

The Stag: source in the game

In the collections menu, the source line for The Stag is exotic engrams and extremely rare world drops. Engram previews include the piece, and Rahool in the Tower is the one who decodes exotic engrams. Because of the one-exotic-armor rule, wearing The Stag means no other exotic helmet, gauntlets, chest armor or leg armor can be worn at the same time.

The Stag FAQ

Can a Titan use The Stag?

No. It is exotic armor for Warlocks, and the game locks the helmet to that class.

What happens if I die wearing The Stag?

A healing rift is created on your corpse. Before that, being critically wounded grants Rift energy.

Do I have to pick a stat option for The Stag?

No. None is the default; the other values ask for High Overall Stats (65+) or a 25+ focus on one stat.
